2025 Women’s Singles Championship

Friday 16th May 2025 saw a superb Autumn morning at Meeniyan Golf Club for the running of South Gippsland Women’s prestigious Singles Championship. The course presentation was excellent, and the autumn tones were stunning in the glistening morning dew.
Not only was the Meeniyan course in fine form, so too were the Meeniyan women – the day evolved to be a ‘purple patch’ for the club. It would have to be a first, in my twenty years in the district, that all six events in the Singles championship, were won by the one club!

A Meeniyan Club Champion for many years, Dot Christie, won the South Gippsland Women’s Singles Championship with a score of 85. Dot also won the A Grade handicap event with 85/11/74. Dot shared that her inaugural outing with her new ‘wheels’ (her golfing cart nicknamed ‘Eric’ after the previous owner) was now a very memorable one.

Veronica Park won the B Grade event with 96 off the stick. She also claimed the B Grade handicap event with 96/21/77.

The winner of the C Grade scratch event was Sue Hoskin finishing with 104. Sue had 33 stableford points to win the C Grade handicap event – a wonderful achievement for her effort and perseverance after a serious car accident late last year.

Balls down the line went to 82 net: Kylie Collins (Foster), Ada Anglin (Phillip Island), Irene Holm (Meeniyan), Bronwyn Debenham (Leongatha), Merrissa Cosson (Korumburra), Elly Berryman (Woorayl), Andrea Thorson (Meeniyan), Bec Thomas (Leongatha), Marg Johnson (Wonthaggi) and Kerri Besley (Korumburra).

The nearest the pins were won by Kylie Collins (Foster) on the 2nd, Merrissa Cosson (Korumburra) on the 8th, Jo McNaughton (Leongatha) on the 11th, and Dot Christie (Meeniyan) on the 14th.
