2026 Maree Anderson Opening Day

Seventy women competed in the Maree Anderson SGGI Opening Day at Korumburra Golf Club held Friday Feb 6th 2026 in a 4BBB format. The weather was exceptionally pleasant, and the course was in superb condition. Handley and Anderson Funerals of Wonthaggi provided a stunning array of potted plants for the winners. This generous sponsorship has been ongoing for thirty-four years. The pots and plants were supplied by Townsend Nursery Wonthaggi.

Marg Johnson, representing Wonthaggi Golf Club, spoke of Maree Andersons’s huge contribution both to the South Gippsland golfing district and to Wonthaggi Golf Club and shared her own memories of golfing with Maree. Maree was both a Life member of her club, Wonthaggi and the South Gippsland district.

The winners of A Grade were Kay Dumbleton and Michelle Roberts (Leongatha GC) with 48 points. Irene Holm and Jo Graeme from (Meeniyan GC), were the runners up with 47 points.

B Grade was won by the Korumburra pairing of sisters Diarne Maskell and Trudy Olden on 48 points while Louise Vuillermin and Tanya Thorson from (Meeniyan GC) won the runner up prize with 47 points.

Down the line balls went to 46pts: Maree Thompson/Wendy Gervasi (Mirboo North), Chris Rickard/Barb Twite (Korumburra), Lyn Leppin/Maree Wittingslow (Korumburra); 45pts Deb Wrigley/Julie Brannaghan (Korumburra), Jo Fennell/Jenny Riseley (Woorayl) and 44pts Elly Berryman/Heather Sullivan, also from Woorayl.

Nearest the pins: 1st Jenny McRae (Wonthaggi), 7th Shelley Snooks (Korumburra), 10th Vicki Roff-Smith (Phillip Island) and 13thPam Rothfield (Phillip Island).

A memorial tribute along with a ‘memory tree’ created by Elly was made to those ladies who had passed away in the last 12 months, who were members of our clubs, graced our courses and were our golfing friends: We remember….Dot West (Korumburra), Margaret McDonald (Lang Lang), Meryle Findlay, Margaret Danks (Leongatha), Barbara Dyke (Meeniyan/Leongatha), Audrey Goldsmith, Margie Row (Meeniyan), Inge Royce (Phillip Island), Thelma Jackson (Wonthaggi), Helga Hannon, Elsie McBride, Diane O’Connor (Woorayl).
