Program Report.
Four Sessions were conducted by golf Professional, Melissa Taylor at Leongatha Golf Club, beginning in December, then followed by sessions in January, February, and April. Time allocation was 8.30am – 10.am. Twelve players committed and represented five clubs.
Most players completed the 4 sessions, and all expressed positive remarks of having made improvements in their game. The sessions included putting, chipping, bunker play, course management. Melissa supplied test sheets to record practice activity between sessions and at the completion of the fourth session, she sent the players a summary e-booklet to refer to. “The booklet outlines the key aspects we covered in the sessions so that the players can refer back at any time they feel necessary. For example, during our chipping session we discussed:
– ball position, length of swing framework, how to chip off different angled hills etc.
Copies of the tests are also included.”
One participant submitted the following unsolicited review to SGGI:
Thank you and the Board for this concept, it was terrific. I was only able to attend the last 3 of the 4 weeks but what Melissa taught us was very beneficial, simple instructions with meaning. I know my game will improve as I put her lessons into play.
I think the idea is great and maybe a bit higher h/c players would benefit with help from Melissa. I liked the way she didn’t want to change your swing but make it work for you. Very approachable!
This proved to be a positive and beneficial exercise for the Board to trial, and will be considered as an ongoing commitment for the betterment of women’s golf in South Gippsland.
