A beautiful Summer’s day greeted the 80 player field for the women’s South Gippsland Golf Maree Anderson Opening Day 4BBB event held at Wonthaggi Golf Club on Friday 10th February 2023.
Handley and Anderson Funeral Directors Wonthaggi, a long time sponsor of the event were thanked for their continued support of this day.
SGGI Life Member Anne Walker spoke on behalf of the Anderson family in paying tribute to her dear friend Maree Anderson who passed away in 2021 and for whom the event is now named.
Anne acknowledged that it was the 31st year that Handley and Anderson had sponsored the event, which Maree had initiated.
The A Grade winners were the Phillip Island pairing of Lesley Meadowcroft/Vicki Roff-Smith 44pts with the B Grade winners of Fay Quilford/Bronwyn Debenham (Leongatha) having the best score of the day with 46pts.
Cheryl White/Karen Green from Phillip Island, were runners up in A Grade with 43 points, and the Wonthaggi combination of Carole Sartori/Catherine Bolding, were runners up in B Grade carding 45 points.
Nearest the pins went to – 2nd Anne Heyward (Foster), 4th Di Fraser (Lang Lang), 8th Rae Knee (Foster), 13thWendy Parker (Leongatha), 17th Barb Warren (Foster).
Down the line balls were won by 44pts Robyn Wilkinson/Betty Bowmar (Wonthaggi) , Bev Bridge/Janet Thompson (Woorayl), 42pts Heather Sullivan/Elly Berryman, Jan Trease/Sheila Constantine, 41pts Anne Poulton/Wendy Cross (Wonthaggi), Karen de Groot/Karen Murchie (Leongatha), Marg Frith/Alice Schofield (Phillip Island), Anne Heyward/Trudi Prue (Foster), 40pts Robin Smith/Trish Owen, Jane Sellenger/Michelle Davey (Phillip Island), Pam Hanley/Pam Russell (Wonthaggi).
