Well Done!!! The Men’s team Country Week team have managed to win the Plate at this year’s Country Teams Event held in Mildura at Mildura Golf Club, Red Cliffs Golf Club and Riverside Golf Club.
Winning their First 3 rounds 5-2, 5.5-1.5, 4.5-2.5, and losing their final round 2-5. The first 3 rounds set up a strong position, with a bye in the final round. Golf Central was the only team who could catch South Gippsland, but with a halved result in their final round it wasn’t enough to catch us.

Women
Overall a very encouraging result for the women’s team.
This year we had only two who had ever played Country Teams, so the rest were very inexperienced but boy did they perform well despite facing opponents with much lower handicaps and years of experience. We lost each day which is a bit disappointing but most games went to at least the 17th, so very close!
We now have a group of girls who have tasted Country teams and love the challenge of it, know where they are and how to reach that standard.
We had incredible support from caddies who came on the journey with us and provided much appreciated help during matches. We thank them sincerely for this.

Women
Great weather at Clifton Springs for Day 1 of Country Teams. The morning round was against West Gippsland – fast out of the blocks for us & a great win of 6/1.
The afternoon round was a ‘tight turnaround’ against the local district of South Western. They were tough opposition on their ‘home patch’ and we were narrowly defeated 4/3. It is an afternoon hit off tomorrow and we are up against Dalhousie at Curlewis.
Another fine day for Country Week Day 2 – a cool wind with sunshine glimpses had most keeping their ‘layers’ on. We had an impressive win, 6/1 against Dalhousie.
Day 3 saw us playing East Gippsland in the last round of the event at The Sands Torquay. We hit off the 10th Tee with an 8.25am start. East Gippsland, like us, had scored 2 wins. All matches were very tight through the morning’s play. Four matches went to the 18th hole, with 3 squares and a narrow loss and then 3 fabulous wins finshing on the 16th and 17th holes. This gave us the 4.5 to 2.5 win and secured overall Runners Up.
Despite having the most matches won and the least lost overall, we came up just a game short of South Western.

Women
Anne Walker, after many years as CWT Team Manager, stepped aside this year and Sue Wylie who had been assistant in 2022 took on the role with Sue Hoskin her assistant.
Thanks to Anne for the great contribution she made in her role in leading the team for so many years.
The location of this year’s event in the Latrobe Valley made it easier to play a practice round – there were three Sundays nominated for the team to play Traralgon, Yallourn and Trafalgar – with course notes being compiled. Those that were not able to make it organised to play the courses at another time. We thank SGGI for paying 50% of the cost of these practice rounds.
The amount of planning and organising that goes into Country week is enormous and with only three weeks to go, advice from Golf Australia was received that four teams from Division 3 – Kara Kara, Wimmera, VGL and Dalhousie – were not able to field teams and had withdrawn.
This then had a domino effect with six teams in Division 2 and instead of four games in three days it was five games in three days. This also required a reshuffle of the courses and meant that the Men’s Plate was now not able to be played on the same course with the women.
Day 1 at Traralgon. The team started with a first round win against East Gippsland 4/3, followed by the afternoon round against Western, with the team going down 5/2.
Day 2 at Yallourn. The morning round against Ballarat saw us go down 5/2 but the afternoon round against West Gippsland saw a win 6/1.
Day 3 at Trafalgar was against South Western, another tough opponent with the team going down 2/5.
The winners of Div 2 were Ballarat, with South Gippsland finishing equal 4th on points.

All Gippsland Championships
South Gippsland Golf Inc
The All Gippsland Championships are played each year; there are separate events for men and women, usually played at separate times of the year, and at different venues. The men contest the Singles and 4BBB Championship events and the women compete for the Singles and Foursomes Championships.
All players registered with a club affiliated with either West, East or South Gippsland Districts are eligible to enter.
Venues are – whenever possible – rotated through the three Districts, with each District selecting suitable venues, again often via a (semi-)rotation system.
Players may compete in the singles and the pairs events, or just one of them. 4BBB/Foursomes pairs must be from the same District but may be from different clubs within that District.
Men
In 2026, the event was held on 30th and 31st May at Bairnsdale Golf Club.
2025 REPORT
The All-Gippsland Championships were held at Garfield on Saturday 11th and Sunday 12th October 2025.
On Saturday the 4BBB Scratch Winners were Ryan Hammond and Zach Bambridge, (Drouin), with a score of 66.
4BBB Handicap Winners were Graeme Durran and Stephen Clark (Garfield), with 66, and
4BBB Mixed Winners were Jason Hoghton and Kylie Hoghton (Garfield), 44 points.
The Singles Championships on Sunday were all contested over 36 holes.
The All Gippsland Singles Champion is Ryan Hammond, Drouin GC, scoring 138 gross.
All Gippsland Champion of Champions is Chris Thorn, Garfield, 145 gross.
All Gippsland Junior Champion is Cody Fry, Garfield, 155 gross.
“A” Grade Handicap Winner: Blake Robinson, Orbost, 140 nett,
“B” Grade Handicap Winner AND Junior Handicap Winner: Cody Fry, Garfield, 139 nett.
2024 REPORT
2024 All Gippsland Championships, 24th & 25th February, at Leongatha Golf Club.
Saturday’s 4BBB event saw a total of 66 pairs entered.
The 18 hole Stroke event was won by Brett McKnight and Jack Jacobsen (Meeniyan Golf Club) with a cracking 66 off the stick, over Paul Andrijczak and Dale Reynolds (Morwell Golf Club).
In the handicap section, Trevor Rickard and Ken Lay (Leongatha) had a superb 57 nett, with Runners Up being Brett McKnight and Jack Jacobsen (Meeniyan).
This year we also had a mixed 4BBB for the first time, with six mixed pairs competing. The winners with a fine 60 nett were Michael and Kate Rowe (Leongatha).
On Sunday, the all important Singles Championship was played in near perfect conditions over 36 holes, with a small but talented field.
The All Gippsland Singles Champion, with scores of 71-80-151 is John Simic (Sale Golf Club), from up and coming Junior Lenny White (Warragul) with scores of 79-76-155.
The Champion of Champions was closely contested with Meeniyan Club Champion, Brett McKnight, taking the honours with fine scores of 73-83-156.
Junior champion, Lenny White (Warragul) was crowned the All Gippsland Junior Champion from another promising Junior, Arlen Peavey (Morwell Golf Club).
A Grade 36 hole Handicap was taken out by Lenny White (141 nett) from Brett Mcknight (142).
B Grade 36 Handicap was won by Chris Roberts (Maffra Golf Club) with 140 nett, the best nett score for the day, from Arlen Peavey (148 Nett).
Golf West Gippsland, with the best juniors on the day, took out the Carruthers Shield over South Gippsland Golf and Golf East Gippsland Inc.
Women
In 2026 the event will be on the 26th and 27th October at Foster Golf Club.
2025 REPORT
All Gippsland Championships 2025 at Yarram Mon 22 & Tues 23rd September (women)
Day 1 – The Championships opened with the Foursomes, and the field of 40 pairs were presented with ‘4 seasons in one day’ with hail, wind & occasional sun testing all the women out there.
Our South Gippslanders did us proud, with Bec Brown/Elly Berryman snaring Runners Up in the Foursomes Championship, with a scratch score of 90. The winners were Johanna Wyllie/Christine Fisher East Gippsland with 83.
In addition, the pairing of Sue Hoskin/Jo Graeme won the Bronze Championship with their score of 104. The runners up were Kaye Gallagher/Denise Mulcahy East Gippsland with 107.
Day 2 – saw the singles event being played with 42 players. The weather was cool but fortunately the rain stayed away.
The winners of the Foursomes from the day before took their good form into the singles and were winners again, with Johanna Wyllie (Tambo Valley) taking out the Championship Scratch event on a score of 83 with the runner up Christine Fisher (Bairnsdale) on 87. Christine also took out the nett event 87-13-76.
In the minor Championship Pam Schaper (Sale) shot 95 to be the winner with Merryn Dear (Churchill/Monash) runner up with 97.
C Grade Shield was won by Penny Earle (Yarram) on 31pts with Raelene Hanratty (Heyfield) runner up on 30pts.
Thank you to all who played from South Gippsland and shared in the enjoyment of bringing the 3 districts together for this annual event.
Well done to the great hosting from Yarram Golf Club, and thank you to the All Gippsland Standing committee – particularly Chris Munday – for the organising of the two days of golf.

2023 REPORT
THE annual All Gippsland Women’s Championship two-day event was held last Monday and Tuesday, 6th & 7th November.
Each year, the three districts – East Gippsland, West Gippsland and South Gippsland – compete for the prestigious Foursomes Scratch event on the Monday and the Singles Championship on Tuesday.
This year, it was South Gippsland’s turn to host the event and Phillip Island was the club selected. The course was in great condition and the women’s captain Helen Coghlan is to be congratulated for her excellent organisation of this huge event with more than 100 players each day.
The weather was extremely pleasant for the majority of the day with warm sunshine – the predicted cool change with the rain arrived late in the afternoon and fortunately most had completed their round.
There was a buzz on arriving in the clubhouse after finishing their foursomes round, as two of the early groups out – Emma Hall/Jeanette Diss (Phillip Island) and Rena Casey (Lang Lang)/Merrissa Cosson (Korumburra) – had each posted a score of 88 gross.
They patiently waited as each of the pairs finished their rounds to see if their score was going to be beaten.
There was no score posted that was better or equal, so the announcement of a playoff was made. It would be a three-hole playoff and then sudden death if still tied.
The first hole was played with no advantage gained, then the rain started to fall as they played the second hole. Still all even.
With everything tied, and both teams on the green on the third hole, it came down to the last putt, which the Phillip Island pair holed, giving them the title.
Congratulations to Emma Hall and Jeanette Diss on winning the All Gippsland Foursomes Scratch Championship and to Rena Casey and Merrissa Cosson, who were the runners up.
The Foursomes Bronze Scratch Championship was won by Ruth McPhee and Sherrie Elliot from Lakes Entrance Golf Club, with 102 on a count back.
The runners up for the Foursomes Bronze scratch were Phillip Island players Vicki Ramage and Liz O’ Neill with 102.
Heather Wintle and Marg Ryan (Wonthaggi) won the Foursomes Handicap event with a great score of 69.5. Runners up were Ruth McPhee and Sherrie Elliot with 71.5 on a count back.
Nearest the pins went to Fiona Gray (Bairnsdale) on the seventh and Liz Foreman (Sale) on the 10th.
The All Gippsland Singles Championship was held on Tuesday, with the weather not so pleasant.
There was a repeat of yesterday with Rebecca Thomas (Leongatha) and Johanna Wyllie (Tambo Valley) both posting identical scores – forcing a playoff over three holes to decide who the All Gippsland Singles Champion would be.
Johanna came out in front on the third hole, displaying excellent chipping and putting skills.
Judy Magill from Phillip Island Golf Club won the Minor Scratch Championship with 95, on a count back from Barb Britten from Foster Golf Club.
The Minor Shield, a relatively new Stableford event for C Grade, was won by Mary Taylor from Phillip Island Golf Club with 34 points, on a count back from fellow club member Marlene Gibson.
The A Grade Handicap event was won by Marg Johnson from Wonthaggi Golf Club with 73 net, with Anne Maree Skarratt runner up from Yarram.
Alice Schofield from Phillip Island Golf Club won the B Grade Handicap event with 71 net, and fellow club member Judy Magill was the runner up with 74.
Nearest the pins were awarded to Michelle Fairlie (Drouin) on the fifth, Anne Maree Skarratt (Yarram) on the 10th, Jan Beaumont (Wonthaggi) on the seventh and Merryn Dear (Wonthaggi) on the 17th.
